When asked my fitness level, I selected Intermediate to be modest. I think I'm being accurate, though, if I'm honest-- it's been a good month since my life's been stable enough to stick to my regular routine. I have been very active this week, but I need to use my new apartment to its fullest in terms of making it work for me. I am growing tired of my same routine, though-- Tae-Bo, Jar Love resistance workouts, and Winsor Pilates. It's engaging enough, but sometimes I swear if I hear the same script, or the same loop of synth beats one more time my head will explode, and my fitness routine will never be the same. I'd like to find ways to challenge and transform my body. I'm not in bad shape, or even unhealthy-- I try to stay conscious of that. I walk to school (1.5 miles each way) with a laptop in my backpack, when the weather's nice. I eat healthfully, and mindfully-- a vegetarian diet still has plenty of wiggle room for not eating healthy. However, I'd like to be better-performing and stronger. How should I start tweaking my routine? Should I just go into overhaul? How does a grad student on a budget make her dollar stretch so she's taking care of her health, and challenging herself physically? If anyone has ideas or advice, I'd be really grateful!

But I'd ask myself what your fitness goals are. Do you want to be able to run a mile in under 9 minutes? Or build muscle mass? Once you do that, you'll know what to do in order to take things to the next level. Joyce |
