I did a lot more stability exercises today, which was OK with me. The assisted stretches were brutal, but I felt pretty good afterward.
Bryan asked why I thought I was so lack luster with yesterday's treadmill intervals, then I reminded him that he gave me two days in a row of interval cardio. It was pretty obvious that I was running on tired legs, he said I didn't have to do the intensity I did for the bike on Monday. Hmmmm. I did the bike workout as written. I think we'll have to discuss the schedule in person. On paper it all makes sense, but in real life it's a bit different. I'm bringing it with me next week.
Joyce - That sounds like a good, hard workout! Those splits aren't too way off, though. You still got it done.
Maggie - It's so weird how the preg tummy grows by the end of the day! After a certain point it will just stay out there. You look great.
PEACE ~Irene

Sorry I have not been around just so busy with work, the commute, and my workouts. I was going to post more but I had to get a flat tire fixed on my car before the stores closed.
Yesterday was Firm Vol. 3 and today was Frim Sculpted Buns, Hips, and Thighs.
Promise to post more
Hugs,

Re:July's Accountability Challenge - Wed 7/28 - 2010/07/29 08:32
Hi everyone - thanks for the welcome back.
Guess I should introduce myself... I live in Canada (about a 3hr drive from Syracuse, NY, for reference) and I'm 35.
I've always been somewhat athletic, but somewhat lazy too... The past few years have been a bit stressful in my life and I totally let those issues get the better of me and as a result, my weight has gone way up and my fitness waaaayyy down.
I've recently been diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder and have to take medication. I'm not a big fan of medication, but I need to try this one for at least 6 months to see if it helps.
I am convinced that if I can get back to exercising regularly and eating well, some of my auto-immune problems will recede. All of my doctors say that diet and weight have nothing to do with it, but I have my doubts.
Anyway - enough of the boring medical stuff. My main hobby is horseback riding and I'm out doing that as much as I can during the nice summer weather. I'm sure my horse wouldn't mind if I lost a few pounds!
I'll post a bit more over the next few days about fitness stuff...
Maggie - You look great. Interesting how you don't really look pregnant in the morning, but do in the evening.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/42325745 30 min. negative splits run per RU schedule. I had a hard time getting started, but after the first mile I got into a groove and was able to push a little. Ran in my 'hood and picked streets with the least hills. Ran up and down my street to fit in the last 1/4 mile -- drove the dog nuts as I ran by the house a few times.
I called my doctor's office this morning to get an Rx for a new inhaler since asthma has been an issue this summer. It figures that they called one minute after I set foot out the door to run, and I had been waiting for a few hours. I think having pneumonia earlier in the year is sort of contributing to the issue now. Coffee just isn't the quick fix any more.
Laura - I hope getting back on the nutrition and workout bandwagon will help with your autoimmune issues. I also hope the docs are wrong and that you can lessen your symptoms through lifestyle changes.
Geoff - Glad to see you're still at it!
PEACE ~Irene

Re:July's Accountability Challenge - Thurs 7/29 - 2010/07/29 20:50
Got a fairly demanding workout in today, and it was cool to have a gym partner for once. One of my BIL's is in town (he's doing the cross-country road trip thing) and he's staying w/us for a few days, so he accompanied me at the gym for weights. But even though I was feeling pretty good, I still held myself back, esp. on the leg work, because I have a tempo run planned for tomorrow and want to be in prime condition for that.
Irene - Great workout there! I love getting negative splits on my runs and I know I'm in the zone when I achieve those.
Laura - It's nice seeing you on here again. I'm also a thirtysomething gal, and I'm originally from New York, though at the moment I'm residing in Kansas. Welcome.
Geoff - Hopefully your schedule will allow you for more PDB posting time soon. But you're still doing the workouts - I like that consistency. ~Joyce~

Re:July's Accountability Challenge - TGIF 7/30 - 2010/07/30 13:41
Today's 3 mile tempo run went really well! I did it at the pace I wanted (9:39/mile pace), and with decent elevation going on, as well as humidity. Even though I headed out early in the morning, it was still thick as molasses outside.
Tomorrow is a 6 miler, but done at LSD pace. I'll see how I fare then, and maybe do 10 miles as my long run next week. I'm getting back into a groove.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday. Have a great weekend, y'all. ~Joyce~

Re:July's Accountability Challenge - TGIF 7/30 - 2010/07/30 13:56
I've really been enjoying my 5 mile walks with my walking buddy here. Those 5 miles just fly by, and it's not such a horrible thing to look forward to. I've let the HIITs and Weights drop right now. I'm tired, it's summer, there is no structure (and frankly, I think that's a good thing). I'm going to put them both back in the mix when we kick off the 12 week challenge. Until then, I'm going to focus on these 5 mile walks. I'll keep doing them once I put everything back in my schedule, but for now, I think this is where I need to be.
In other news, my daughter passed out for absolutely NO reason last night. We were at her friend's house, and she was holding a kitten, and down she went. She had eaten, it wasn't hot, she was not locking her knees, she isn't sick... It just doesn't make any sense at all. It wasn't a seizure, and she came to pretty much the moment her head was on the floor (it was a slow fall, because she ended up leaning against someone as she went down.) Tells me it's likely blood/oxygen related, but I don't know. Upside, she just had an EKG and a sonogram, and wore a heart monitor for 24 hours - so I figure we already have most of the tests they would have run anyway.
I'm going to watch her, and if it happens again I'll pursue it. Otherwise... I'm going with fluke. Still, I don't like that. Mommy-anxiety level went to 20.
In other-other news, one of the weird requests I got from people (mostly teens) when they found out about my photography business is for FB or MySpace portraits. Which is weird, because what on earth does a person charge for that? I did manage to figure that out, but with that in mind, the local fair is in a little over a week. They have vendor booths, and it would be an excellent way to say "I'm here!"... at the same time, I need to be able to sell something to offset my costs, and the thought that I could do "discounted" FB pics right there, well... it seemed like a good idea.
I'm waiting for a call back to find out how expensive the booths are, and then figure out if this is even feasible for me... but hey. Another thing I may be doing. The only downside is having to put up with seeing everyone I know, INCLUDING the stepford wives. Although, I suppose I COULD take really unflattering pics of them, and submit them to the newspaper for faire coverage...
Joyce - It's so hard to run in heat and humidity, I'd rather have freezing temps! Good for you getting out there, with a good pace!
Irene - I keep forgetting to get my inhaler refilled before it's totally out! gah! I've been having a lot more issues with asthma this year myself... I know we're on opposite sides, but maybe there is something in the air?
Laura - Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, and even though the Dr's say it has nothing to do with it, being healthier can only help. So I say go for it! ~Kyra
I feel like my abdomen is getting bigger every day now. This morning I looked more like my PM photo from Tuesday than the AM pic.
I am a little worried that it will affect my form in certain exercises or limit my cardio choices. So far, though, it hasn't been an issue. Boob expansion is actually more of a burden than bump expansion, IMO.
I'm still putting up heavy weights on the Chalean Extreme program though not maxing out as I did prior to pregnancy. I think I would have lost significant muscle mass if I'd downgraded to the usual recommendations of lifting no more than 5-10 lbs and doing a bazillion reps while pregnant. I'm not trying to build more muscle or set new personal records; I just want to maintain what I've already built up after 6 years of training.
I'll have to preview the CLX Lean circuits DVD this weekend before starting it next week to see if there will be any issues continuing with the program now that the baby's growth is accelerating to the point where it is showing. I really don't want to switch to prenatal stuff until I've completed all three phases of CLX, but I will if I have to.
Joyce - I can never decide if I like working out with a partner or not. I know I finish faster by myself, but sometimes the competition of having someone with me means I get a better workout.
Irene - Does coffee suppress asthma symptoms? Interesting. I've been having some issues with pregnancy rhinitis, or what I call Incubation Mucus Overload.
Laura - Hah...Yeah. The incredible expanding belly is a wonder to behold some days.
Sizzlin' Summer Challenge Motivation: [16:40] cdub: Did you ever get those green jeans? How did the size fit? [16:46] causticmuse: I got the jeans, but can't wear them in my current ass. [16:46] causticmuse: When I trade in for a smaller ass, I will rock them mightily. [16:46] cdub: LMAO

Non workout day, however, Bryan put on the schedule "optional swim." His group swam out at La Jolla Cove today. Gee, how convenient. I still think he's trying to get me on the tri bandwagon. Not gonna happen right now. Maybe later.
No, I didn't swim today.
I picked up my Rx for an Abuterol inhaler today, but it's a different brand. I'm not sure if that will make a difference, but we'll see. Not breathing properly really messes up the day.
Last night we went to listen to my hair dresser's band that she's in -- she sings plays flute and handles some percussion instruments. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were really good. I'm not sure what genre to put them in since their sound is blues/new-age/alternative. They're getting air play on a local independent radio station. Hubs even knew a couple of their songs. They have the potential for taking off, which is great, but it also means that I'll lose my hair dresser.
Maggie - Very strong, hot coffee can help with asthma symptoms, plus I don't go from feeling jittery to a big crash and burn as I do with an inhaler. I'm relatively proactive in preventing asthma since I know what triggers it (mostly foods), but there are some days when the weather sucks and pollen counts are up, and there's no getting around it. What is the current consensus about drinking coffee and pregnancy? The rules keep changing. We were in Brazil for about 5 weeks during my second trimester. How could I not drink coffee in Brazil? PS, my son came out rather mellow.
Kyra - That's scary about your daughter just passing out like that. Any other conclusions as to why this happened? Hormones? I hope she'll be OK. The Facebook portrait idea sounds interesting. Why not? Still laughing over the Stepford wives... As for the weather, it's whacked everywhere. It's a lot more damp and cool here this year, and it's normally dry and hot. Just so you know, the inhaler did offer relief.
Joyce - Nice going on the tempo run, even with that thick air! Have a good 6 miler tomorrow! I'll be doing the same!
PEACE ~Irene

What a difference a day makes. Asthma meds helped! All splits are back under 10 minute miles, and 6 miles under an hour, even with stop lights, and I was running at talking pace. Color me happy!
