Re:July's Accountability Challenge - Sat 7/31 - 2010/07/31 17:28
Was a good girl and remained true to my original plan of going super S-L-O-W on today's run, which got extended to 7 miles by accident. I maintained a 12 min/mile pace, which was easy to do in some spots because I never knew until this morning that Kansas has some fairly steep hills! But that's also cool, because hills are my albatross and I need to continue improving on that.
Heat training continues to be hard, and is kind of a bummer because I can't go as fast as I normally do, but I do think it's good for toughening myself up. It's also providing me a decent base for the Palm Beach Marathon, because even though it's held in the winter, that event can have temps in the upper 80s... And a lot of people who aren't accustomed to running in heat drop like flies there. I do *not* intend to be one of them this December. However, I'll give a HUGE thumbs up to those who race Badwater and Western States. I simply can't imagine running over 100 miles in 100+ F conditions. They are crazy, but awesome!
So that is it for workouts until Monday. Right now, my game plan is to chill out and drink some cheap chardonnay.
Irene - I'm so happy that the meds helped, because it certainly showed on your run today! As for coffee and pregnancy, I think the latest word on it from doctors is that 1 cup/day is OK. My SIL drank coffee occasionally while she was preggers with her second kid because she suffers from migraines, and given a choice btw. coffee and pain meds, the coffee wins since it's still less harmful on the baby.
And I know about the joy (and pain) of losing a great hairdresser to bigger things. The best one I ever had moved to upstate NY a few years ago to raise her kids, and even though I was thrilled for her (bigger house, safer town, etc.) I was also bummed.
Maggie - The last time I'd had a gym workout partner, it failed miserably because she wasn't into weights, or anything that I enjoyed for that matter! Up until a few days ago, the only people I worked out with were fellow runners, and even at its peak, it was only 2x/week. However, it was nice having a competent person on Tuesday to spot me at the bench press.
Kyra - I agree, I'd much rather have the freezing temps to run in. But they'll come soon enough, and I'll probably be complaining about those when they do. And I hope your daughter is doing OK, and that whatever is going on w/her isn't major at all. I'd be incredibly worried, too. ~Joyce~

Well, I just accidentally deleted my whole post as it was there twice.
And I had such good things to say too ...
Well, I'll have to get back on later to repost it.
